Minks

The past few days we have been seeing mink everywhere!! The dogs killed one the day before yesterday. It was on the beach in front of our house at low tide, they had trapped it under a rock and the mink was screaming. Then it darted out and Cinder grabbed its neck and Coby grabbed it legs and they tried to take it from each other. Then they all were on it. I had to smack Cinder with a stick to get her to drop it. It tried to get back up but a couple minutes later it died. I felt soooo sorry for it. It was so sad when it tried to get back up but couldn't.

Just today I have seen 2 mink at the same time on the beach in front of the lodge and this morning I heard one screaming when the dogs were chasing it. I got a really good photo of one that was on the beach today and it almost got me when I got close to take a picture. It was hissing and baring its teeth at me and even took a couple steps toward me but the dogs scared it away. It jumped into the river and started swimming away so I ran to the river edge to take more pictures. When it saw me it started swimming back to get me but then it changed its mind and swam away. Dad said that the mink are mating so that's why we are seeing them everywhere.

Mink

I spent the morning on the beach...

The way Yes Bay got its name is the native Alaskans who used to live here called it Yaz Bay, Yaz means blue mussels. But it was easier for Captain Cook, the guy who discovered Yes Bay, to say yes instead of yaz.
