The Hunger Games Book

Still nothing has really happened except that last night (or I guess you would call this morning) I stayed up till 4:35am reading a book. I don't normally read this early into the morning but this was a great book. I had only gotten it, The Hunger Games, last night at 7:00pm on my Kindle but from then to this morning I didn't even put it down. Staying up till 4:30 this morning was probably not one of my best choices. But really I didn't know it was that early in the morning till I looked at my watch. Even if I had stopped I would have had to pick it up again I was totally hooked on the book. Oh and I also finished it......
I've been practicing my guitar which I got last time I was in town. I love it!!! The only thing is that I have been having to teach myself guitar because no one else in my family knows how to play it. But it's really not too bad. I'm actually really liking it because I can go at my own pace and not feel rushed and I can really work on a song before going on to the next.

Here's a couple pictures.....

Saylor being crazy.... as usual. :)

Nothing Inpirticular

I haven't been doing much latly and nothing really has happened but I just wanted to post something for the joy of blogging. This morning my dad left for town. He is leaving on a plane tomorrow morning and is headed for Longbeach, California for advertising the lodge. Dads ankle is doing great! He can now walk all around and his ankle wont swell up, but he still has a limp. Just a couple days ago he saw a line on his ankle. It is a calseum deposite where the break had been. Right now I am here inside doing school while it is sunny and though only 35 digress outside it still looks soo beautiful and inviting. There is still some snow on the ground but only in patches where the sun can't get through the trees.

Minks

The past few days we have been seeing mink everywhere!! The dogs killed one the day before yesterday. It was on the beach in front of our house at low tide, they had trapped it under a rock and the mink was screaming. Then it darted out and Cinder grabbed its neck and Coby grabbed it legs and they tried to take it from each other. Then they all were on it. I had to smack Cinder with a stick to get her to drop it. It tried to get back up but a couple minutes later it died. I felt soooo sorry for it. It was so sad when it tried to get back up but couldn't.

Just today I have seen 2 mink at the same time on the beach in front of the lodge and this morning I heard one screaming when the dogs were chasing it. I got a really good photo of one that was on the beach today and it almost got me when I got close to take a picture. It was hissing and baring its teeth at me and even took a couple steps toward me but the dogs scared it away. It jumped into the river and started swimming away so I ran to the river edge to take more pictures. When it saw me it started swimming back to get me but then it changed its mind and swam away. Dad said that the mink are mating so that's why we are seeing them everywhere.

Mink

I spent the morning on the beach...

The way Yes Bay got its name is the native Alaskans who used to live here called it Yaz Bay, Yaz means blue mussels. But it was easier for Captain Cook, the guy who discovered Yes Bay, to say yes instead of yaz.

Geode Rocks

I looooove rocks!!! Right now for science I am studying rocks and the 3 different kinds of rock: Igneous, Metamorphic, and Sedimentary rock!  All rocks fall into one of these categories.  Anyway you could call me a rock hound. I am specifically learning about geodes. Geodes are formed by mineral deposits inside volcanic or sedimentary rock "bubbles." My mom got a rock kit for me and in that kit there was a geode rock and I split it open with a hammer and there were crystals in it! I found another rock in my room that looked kind of like the geode I split open, so after lunch today I took it down under the lodge where the floor is cement and I started pounding on it with both sides of the hammer and I only made a bunch of dust from the rock. I had put the rock in a plastic bag so if chips flew up they wouldn't hit me.... I hit the rock so many times that I tore the bag to pieces. Seeing that I wasn't going to break it open I brought the rock down to Dewey. There are lots of tools in the wood shop and so Dewey tried hitting it open with a sledge hammer, rock drill, a sharp wedge and a couple little pieces came out and I could see there was crystal!!!! The drill only made a tiny indent but it had weakened the rock in that area so Dewey hit it with the sledge hammer one more time and the rock split in two!!! The inside is beautiful...it is cloudy blue in the middle and the rock around it is dark purple! Here are some pictures....

Saylor "Lost" a Tooth

I have to catch up on a lot that has happened. First of all Saylor has lost her first tooth..... wait I need to reword that, yes Saylor lost a tooth but I actually pulled it for her. She wouldn't let me at first but I finally coaxed her to let me after I said I wouldn't use plyers (hehehehe that would have been fun!) and that she wouldn't have to pay me a dollor. hahahaha I'm evil, mom was the one who said I couldn't charge my little sister for pulling her tooth!! Saylor has another tooth that is really loose. It'll come out any time now. Also Dewy set out some traps and he has now caught 3 martin and he is learning from my dad how to skin them. I meant to post on Valentines day but we were busy that day. So... Happy Late Valentines Day!!lol  The weather right now is bad, its cloudy and raining the water outside the bay is ruff. We went crabbing yesterday and got around 10 crab, when we went crabbing the weather was beautiful and the water was perfect.

I encourage anyone who reads my posts and enjoys them to comment. Please do, I loooooove comments.

Sea Lions

A couple days ago we got back to the lodge after a 2 week long trip to town. We all had a great time seeing friends and going to swimming and PE. The weather in town while we were there was mostly beautiful, there were only a couple days of complete down pour. Right now at Yes Bay it is beautiful and sunny but still 32 degrees. On our way to town and also on our way back we saw tons of sea lions on a big rock. They stank sooooo bad like nothing I've ever smelled before and when we got closer they started roaring and snorting at us and started scooting over to the edge then jumped in one by one.

Going to Town

In a couple days we are going into town for testing and also my dad has to do a few things at his office. We are planning on going on Saturday but it all depends on if the weather is good. I think we will just be in town for about a week but maybe it'll be longer! When we are in town I really hope the weather will be good but I mean... slim chance because it is January and that's almost the worst month for weather. Speaking of weather, here its pretty windy, 20 mph but our house is sheltered by the trees so we don't really feel it. An hour ago it was snowing hard and the snowflakes were huge!! I can't wait to be in town, the last time I was there it was November.
